A skit based on an actual event mind you. Kind of a SNL point-counterpoint covering a real story. Basically the real story was... Hellenic (Greek) naval architects signed off on a ship design that was later (2 months later) discovered to be inherently flawed when the first built ship had the bow literally fall off. This was not in "heavy" seas either.

That is both very amusing and terrifying at the same time. I hope the actual ship wasn't carrying anything?

Everyone seen the internet help desk joke?

The ship was carrying Oil.... and a bow.... and a fire.... all of which it left in the sea. No joke. Only 20,000 tons though, sadly thats a real small number for oil spills.

Boat designers, "Pi is about 2, right? Cool onto the building phase."

Boat Designers:

BOW IS WORKING AS INTENDED.

for more info see Maritime report, apparently there was a "heavy swell." However, notice the Greek flag... suspicious...

Anyway, this comprises the most interesting parts of my day: Learning about famous ship incidents. If you would like to hear about more I could rustle up a few more links, but most aren't quite as comical.

Strange, she doesn't look Greek. Oh well its all Greek to me.

Actually I looked at the report and the flag is listed as Greec. Typo? Conspiracy? Hurr Hurr Mash Buttans?

Thats the point actually. She isn't Greek by origin, but since Hellenic seaways signs off on cheep shit they used their standards. They call it a "flag of convenience." It would be like me showing a CU student ID to people despite the fact that I went to mines properly and only went to CU for one class. In this case it would be something like my CU ID lets me off the hook in places and ride the bus for free. Using a different flag means you are answerable to that country's government. Some are way less strict than others, in both punishments and building requirements.

Very interesting, but stupid!

*ducks behind potted plant*

Actually thats something I did not know. It would seem you're quite on track to become a salty sea dog of some renown compared to us landlubbers.

New York city changes the lives of many people, and I am no different. Lately I have had certain encounters that have shattered my perception of this world.

I no longer have to believe. For I have proof!

Also It appears that the price of freedom in NY is not what I expected.

You know how the economy is right now. Even free has inflated in price to a whopping $10, supposedly.

Found some good comics for military/ship life. Most land lubbers such as ye selves wouldn't find funny... Then again there are a few.

This one happens to me all the time. Deckhands assume no one else on the ship works. So do the other officers for that matter.

I like how in the third video the bridge is barely scratched by a ship hitting it.

Also, the first and second videos seem to link to the same video.

Not really funny, but I figured I should post it.

Here is a link to the website I am gonna post pictures of my travels onto. You don't have to have an account to view them. I figured its about time (I've been pestered by quite a few people).

Sweet pictures! Sorry I wasn't able to look at it earlier when you told me about it in chat, I was really busy at the time.

I love how there is a store called Colorado in Australia, but what the heck mall cops not letting you take pictures? Anyways, I can't wait to see more pictures. Perhaps some more around the ship. It would be neat to see what life is like on the Rainier.
